Guy with Issues?

I have been dating this guy for about a month now, Everything was quite smooth in the beginning, but now it feels that his behavior is quite the on/ off kind, one min he is nice and attentive, sometimes he just shuts off. He is a different person at work, very driven with great personality but turns all quiet after work. I know he has money and family issues but he is not saying anything to me (neither do I want to force him to). He gets depressed at times and just goes away by himself, even on weekends. So far I have been standing by him and letting him know I will be there when he needs me. Should I take it slow and let him open up or qsn his erratic behavior (which is quite confusing btw)? Your opinions greatly appreciated...
