Radio broken on '71 VW bug?

It was a cold night and my windshield was getting defrosted, so I had my fan all the way up. My radio was on also. Suddenly, my fan starts making whirring sounds and my radio just shuts off. I turned off my fan and saw a little bit of smoke come out of the vents...Where do I begin to repair this?
